Production Fire Cover
A shoot needs fire cover that understands the call sheet, the location and the pressure of a working production. CritiCall supplies standby fire crews for film, television, commercials, documentaries and streaming productions in studios and on location.
Our personnel work with Production Managers, Location Managers, Unit Managers and the production safety team to establish where cover is required, what activity it needs to protect and how the crew will communicate during the shooting day. The aim is practical: keep the right resource close to the work without obstructing the set, access routes or production movement.
Fire cover can accompany controlled fire effects, hot works, action sequences and other agreed activities, or provide a general standby presence for higher-risk locations. Before cameras turn, the fire crew checks access, water availability, appliance position and the route for raising an alarm. During filming, the team remains in contact with the nominated production representative and is ready to respond if required.
Productions change quickly. Locations move, schedules slip and scene requirements develop. We can adapt the deployment to confirmed changes while retaining a clear brief, dependable communications and continuity between departments.
Practical action on camera
Special Effects, Stunts & Emergency Vehicles
Pyrotechnics, controlled fire, hot works and vehicle action require a standby arrangement matched to the effect and the set. CritiCall can position fire personnel and appropriate resources around the activity, coordinate with the appointed special-effects or stunt team and remain ready throughout rehearsals and takes.
For vehicle stunts and action sequences, the requirement may extend beyond fire cover. Access for an appliance, separation between working departments, recovery considerations and clear radio contact all contribute to a set that can reset efficiently between takes.
We can also help source British emergency vehicles for on-camera roles, including fire appliances, ambulances, police vehicles, command vehicles and more specialist units. Sourcing is based on the production brief, period, visual treatment and availability; it does not imply that CritiCall owns every vehicle offered. Where a vehicle is intended as a picture vehicle, its markings, lighting and permitted use must be agreed for the shoot.

Practical effects and location preparation
Water & Special Effects Support
Water is often a production tool rather than an emergency resource. CritiCall can arrange water delivery and practical site support for rain effects, road and surface wet downs, dust suppression and water-dependent effects.
Requirements differ considerably between a brief wet down and sustained artificial rain. The production may need a tanker, hose runs, a suitable feed for the effects department, safe vehicle access and a plan for managing runoff around crew, equipment and the public. We help define those practical needs and source suitable resources for the confirmed task.
For dry exterior locations, controlled water application can reduce airborne dust and prepare roads or hardstanding for continuity. For practical effects, our role can include water supply and positioning while the appointed special-effects team retains control of its rig and the creative result.

Difficult locations and higher-risk scenes
Specialist Rescue & High-Risk Filming
Remote locations, water, steep ground and work at height can take a production beyond ordinary set arrangements. CritiCall can provide specialist standby rescue personnel and equipment selected around the location and the activity being filmed.
For filming beside rivers, reservoirs or other bodies of water, the provision can include water-rescue or swiftwater-rescue standby where the environment and task call for it. Rope-rescue cover can be considered for work at height, exposed edges, difficult access and locations where conventional evacuation would be impractical.
The team is positioned to remain useful without entering frame or interfering with the department leading the work. Routes to the filming area, equipment staging, communications, casualty access and onward emergency arrangements are established before the sequence begins. This is a live standby function centred on rescue readiness, not a consultancy exercise.
Where terrain or distance affects access, the deployment can be shaped around the full location day rather than a single shot. That gives production a consistent point of contact while cast, crew and equipment move between working areas.

Temporary production flying
Helicopter & Aviation Support
Helicopter filming and temporary production movements need ground arrangements that work with the location, the operator and the shooting schedule. CritiCall can support temporary landing sites and heliports with aviation fire cover, ground-side coordination and clear contact between the pilot or operator and production.
Dedicated fire cover can remain in place for arrivals, departures and planned periods on the ground. Where hot refuelling forms part of the confirmed operation, suitable standby cover can be positioned for that activity while fuel provision and refuelling remain with the appointed operator or supplier.
The landing area must stay clear and understandable even on a busy unit base. We can assist with sterile areas, access, movement information and the interface between aircraft activity and the wider location team. This service is for temporary production activity and does not imply the operation of an airport or responsibility for flying decisions.
